Summer, 2019

Welcome to the Summer Edition of Carlo Gavazzi’s Newsletter. We’ve got many exciting things in the works, which will be unveiled by the Fall. Below you will find some recent activities and product launches.

Recently Released New Products

Over the course of the past several months we have released several new exciting products!

You can find a quick recap on new products from the past year here.

In May, we launched the game-changing SCTL55 Series IO-Link Smart Configurator. It provides a means to configure any IO-Link sensor with a wireless device that, in essence, replaces the need to program via a USB IO-Link Master connected to a PC or via a network connected master device. The only thing required is the IO-Link Smart Configurator.

This device is portable and could be used anywhere such as on the plant floor or in the office. The device is battery powered and equipped with WiFi for IODD files download. Hence there’s no need for power or a laptop. It is truly a user friendly, wireless solution.

In early 2019, we also launched the IBS, ICS and ICB Series Inductive Proximity Sensors with integrated IO-Link communications.

The IBS04, ICS05 and ICS08 Series represent the ideal solution for industrial automation applications where space is limited, but long switching distance is needed. They are available in robust Ø4mm, M5 or M8 stainless steel housings, with an M8 plug or two meter PVC cable.

The new generation of the ICB 12, 18 and 30 Series are a comprehensive family of high performance inductive proximity sensors for contactless and wear-free detection of metallic objects. They are available in durable nickel-plated brass housings, offered in three diameters: M12, M18 and M30, with an extended sensing distance range between 4 and 22 mm. They are also available with an M12 plug or two meter PVC cable.

Once connected to an IO-Link master, these sensors can be easily and completely configured; enabling additional advanced functionalities such as the detection counter (RPM) and the speed controller. Each sensor then becomes fully programmable and provides the means for hundreds of configurations in one single device.

We also announced the launch our new Capacitive Proximity Sensors with Integrated IO-Link in early 2019. Based on our 4th generation of TRIPLESHIELD™ sensors, the CA18CA and CA30CA Series represent the ideal solution for automation applications where sensor flexibility or sensing performance needs to be constantly and accurately monitored and logged. The sensors are housed in robust IP69K certified housings, which are ECOLAB approved.

Besides the full range of technical features provided by our capacitive sensor families, the IO-Link communication mode enables additional advanced functionalities such as: QoR (Quality of Run), QoT (Quality of Teach) and diagnostic parameters.

With IO-Link sensor communications, each sensor becomes fully programmable and customizable, allowing more than half a million setting combinations.

Earlier this year, we also announced the launch of our new RGTS Series Single-Phase Motor Soft-Starters. They can control 120 or 240VAC induction motors up to 25A / 3Hp.

The RGTS Series is a fully solid state solution. Wire bonding technology reduces the thermal and mechanical stresses of the output chips resulting in a longer lifetime compared to other assembled technologies or electro-mechanical solutions. The RGTS is a very simple soft starter requiring just two user adjustments. The motor ramp-up time, and initial torque, can be independently adjusted via the built-in potentiometers. The green LED indicates the supply voltage presence. The ramp-up and full-voltage indication are provided through an orange LED.

The RGTS Series does not require a dedicated control signal. Hence less wiring is involved. Despite its simplicity, this product solution can help to reduce motor starting current by 40% compared to a direct on-line start.

Also earlier this year, we also announced the launch of our new RG..M Series of Single-Phase Solid State Relays and Contactors featuring Integrated Monitoring. The RG..M consists of solid state switches that integrate monitoring features for quick and timely failure detection, besides the switching function. Timely failure detection eliminates the need for re-work and prevents scrap, leading to better production throughput and better quality products. Detection for mains loss, load loss, SSR open and short circuit, SSR internal fault and supply out of range are now possible without a need for external components. The RG..M of solid state contactors and relays is equipped with an Alarm LED for visual indication of fault presence, and an alarm transistor output for remote signaling.

The RG..M solid state relays are available with either an integrated heatsink, RGC..M or without the heatsink, RGS..M. Ratings go up to 660 VAC, 65 AAC (for the RGC..M) and 90 AAC (for the RGS..M). The RG..M Series is controlled with a 4 to 32VDC input signal, and must be supplied with 24 VDC.
